NHAI Begins Construction of 100-Metre Foot Overbridge at Chandni Chowk Flyover to Ease Pedestrian Movement"

A Long-Awaited Solution for Pedestrian Safety

For years, pedestrians at the busy Chandni Chowk flyover struggled to cross the highway safely. With no proper footbridge or underpass, people had no option but to navigate through heavy traffic, risking their safety every day.

Construction Work Begins

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has started building a foot overbridge (FOB) at the site. Work on the foundation pillars is already underway, and the NHAI plans to complete the bridge in the next three months.

Once completed, the Chandni Chowk FOB is expected to solve a major problem for the area's residents and commuters.

Key Details About the Foot Overbridge

The bridge will be over 100 metres long, connecting the Bavdhan wing to the Bhugaon wing. To support the bridge across the main highway, a central pillar will be built right on the carriageway.

One of the biggest concerns during construction is ensuring smooth traffic flow. The NHAI is taking steps to minimize disruption for vehicles while the work progresses.

Additional Features Under Consideration

Former councillor Dilip Wade Patil, who has been actively following the project, has requested the NHAI to install lifts or escalators on both sides of the FOB. His request highlights the needs of people carrying luggage, senior citizens, and others who would benefit from easier access.

Patil also emphasized the importance of connecting the foot overbridge with the upcoming nearby metro station, aiming for seamless pedestrian movement in the area.

If completed on time, this project will not just offer safer crossing for pedestrians but will also mark a small but important step towards improving urban infrastructure in one of the busiest parts of the city.
