A Step Toward Enhancing New Delhi’s Urban Identity The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is set to construct a 27-metre-tall clock tower near the Talkatora roundabout in central Delhi — a move that aims to add architectural character to the city’s Lutyens' zone. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹1.3 crore, is targeted for completion by December 2025.
1.Octagonal tower structure with traditional clay brick design
2. A 2-metre diameter functional clock
3. Granite flooring, marble decorations, and steel railings in the surrounding area
The tower will be located at the intersection of Mandir Marg and Talkatora Road, a prime location that connects several prominent areas in central Delhi. The project has received approval from the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC).
Cultural Value and Visual Identity NDMC officials say the goal is to give Lutyens’ Delhi a distinct landmark, aligning with the tradition of many Indian cities where iconic clock towers are symbolic of civic pride. This initiative aims to enhance the visual and cultural identity of the area, making it more recognizable and meaningful for residents and visitors alike.
Low Budget, High Public Value With a modest budget of ₹1.3 crore, the clock tower serves as a cost-effective urban intervention — blending functionality with aesthetics, without disrupting the area’s architectural harmony.
This project reflects NDMC’s ongoing efforts to revamp public spaces with meaningful infrastructure. Once completed, the clock tower is expected to become a visible and memorable part of Delhi’s central skyline, contributing to both urban heritage and ease of navigation. By year-end 2025, Delhi’s Talkatora area will not just be a traffic node — it will be home to a new city icon.
