In a major step toward solving Delhi’s long-standing traffic woes, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a ₹3,500 crore underground tunnel project connecting Dwarka Expressway (Shiv Murti-Mahipalpur) to Nelson Mandela Road (Vasant Kunj). Approved in a recent meeting with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, this five-kilometre tunnel is part of a broader ₹24,000 crore plan focused on reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality across Delhi and its surrounding regions.
1.Twin underground tubes will be built, each with three lanes – ensuring a signal-free connection between South Delhi and Dwarka/Gurugram.
2. It’s expected to ease heavy traffic from Rangpuri, Dhaula Kuan, Rao Tula Ram Marg, and NH-48.
3.Equipped with advanced systems like fire safety, ventilation, CCTVs, and emergency exits – it promises safe, smooth travel.
4.It will strengthen Delhi’s link to key highways like NE-5, NH-44, NH-10, and even the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway via UER and Dwarka Expressway.
Calling it a “foundation for the Delhi of the future,” CM Gupta believes this project will not only reduce travel time but also benefit millions who commute daily.
Construction will begin early next year. This is one of the many steps the Delhi government is taking to make urban transport more efficient, safe, and eco-friendly. Stay tuned for more updates on infrastructure changes shaping the capital.
